AVA Spanish operates www.avaspanish.com (Quest Portal the Platform). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.
1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
We collect the following information when you use our Quest Portal Platform:
- Email address (for account login and authentication)
- Nickname/Username (displayed publicly on leaderboards)
- Learning progress data (XP, level, streak count, gold, exercises completed)
- Exercise performance data (scores, completion times)
- Login and usage timestamps
- Achievement unlock history (which badges you've earnt and when)
2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We use your information to:
- Provide personalised learning experience
- Track your progress and achievements
- Enable competition through leaderboards
- Send important account notifications (password resets, etc.)
- Improve our Platform based on usage patterns
- Provide teacher corrections and personalised feedback on your written submissions
3. DATA STORAGE AND SECURITY
Your data is stored securely using Supabase (EU-based servers, GDPR compliant).
- Passwords are encrypted and never stored in plain text
- All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption
- We implement industry-standard security measures
- We retain your account data while your account is active. After account deletion, data is permanently removed within 30 days.
4. PUBLIC INFORMATION
The following information is visible to other users:
- Your nickname/username
- Your position on leaderboards
- Your level and total XP
Your email address is NEVER shared publicly.
5. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
We use:
- Supabase for authentication and data storage
- Squarespace for website hosting
These services have their own privacy policies.
Links to Patreon (patreon.com/AVASpanish) for optional subscriptions. Patreon has its own privacy policy and we receive no data from them.
6. COOKIES
We use essential cookies for:
- Keeping you logged in
- Remembering your preferences
* Squarespace (our website host) may set additional performance/analytics cookies, you can accept or decline these via the cookie banner
* We do not use advertising or third-party marketing cookies
7. YOUR RIGHTS (GDPR)
You have the right to:
- Access your data (request a copy)
- Delete your data (request account deletion)
- Correct inaccurate data
- Opt out of public leaderboards
- Export your data

8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Our Platform is designed for students aged 13 and older. Full eligibility requirements (including under-13s and parental consent for users under 18) are set out in our Terms & Conditions #3).
Parents or guardians can request deletion of their child's data at any time by emailing alvaro@avaspanish.com
9. ESSAY SUBMISSIONS & EDUCATIONAL CONTENT (Added: 21/04/2026)
When you submit an essay for correction:
- We store your essay content, corrections, and feedback in our secure database.
- Your submission is linked to your account for progress tracking.
- You can consent to your essay being used in educational videos/livestreams.
- If you consent, you can choose how your name appears (first name, username, Patreon name, or anonymous)
- You can withdraw consent for future use at any time by emailing alvaro@avaspanish.com
- We never share your personal essays outside of educational content you've consented to.
Your essay data is stored securely and only accessible by you and Álvaro (the teacher).
10. LAS CRÓNICAS DEL REINO - READING COMPREHENSIONS (NEW: 15/05/2026)
- Opinions submitted via the Crónicas del Reino reading section follow the same privacy terms as essay submissions described above.
11. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last Updated" date.
